The present invention relates to a lighting device, in particular for an operating theater, comprising a lighting head (6) comprising a body (7) in which is mounted at least one light source capable of generating a light beam, a handle (20) extending along an axis, mounted on the body (7) and movable in rotation with respect to the body (7) around the axis of said handle (20), the control means (16) located in the body (7) and able to control a parameter of the lighting, the detection means (18a, 18b, 26a, 26b) of the angular position of the handle (20). The detection means comprise at least a first part (26a, 26b) coupled in rotation with respect to the handle (20) and at least a second part (18a, 18b) coupled in rotation with respect to the body (7) and able to supply to the control means (16) a signal which is representative of the angular position of the handle (20) with respect to the body (7), the second part (18a, 18b) being able to detect the angular position of the first part (26a, 26b) without contact, or vice versa.
