The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating depression and anxiety, which comprises wogonin as an active ingredient. The wogonin of the present invention exhibits selective, reversible, and competitive inhibition of the activity of monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) which is associated with the onset of depression and anxiety, and has little cytotoxicity, thereby being safely used in pharmaceutical or food compositions for preventing or treating depression and anxiety.본 발명은 우고닌(wogonin)을 유효성분으로 포함하는 우울증 및 불안증의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 본 발명의 우고닌은 우울증과 불안증의 발병과 연관이 있는 모노아민 산화효소 A형(MAO-A)의 활성을 선택적, 가역적, 및 경쟁적으로 억제하는 효과를 나타내며, 세포독성이 거의 없으므로, 우울증 및 불안증을 예방 또는 치료하기 위한 약학적 또는 식품 조성물에 안전하게 사용할 수 있다.
