PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mulching material for planting overcoming defects in the following materials as the mulching material: cardboard or the like does not adapt to the ground surface when laid; unwoven fabric mulching material has no response capability against abrupt temperature change at the ground surface because of its poor thermo-keeping property, makes the soil easily dry due to evaporation of water in the soil because of its high air permeability and water permeability, and allows weeds to grow when the sun light passes through the unwoven fabric to get to the ground; and a filmy impermeable sheet makes the soil dry all the more because rainwater is not supplied to the soil when entirely laid. SOLUTION: The mulching material for planting has the following structure: a water impermeable coating material 2 is applied to one surface 3 excluding a water-permeation part 4 of a light-shielding unwoven fabric 1, joint sealant 4c is basically charged to the one surface 3 of the light-shielding unwoven fabric 1, the surface 3 including the joint sealant 4c is covered with the water impermeable coating material 2 so that the joint sealant 4c can be peeled off from the surface 3 together with the coating material 2 adhering closely to the joint sealant 4c.
