The present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions and methods suitable for treating a number of diseases and conditions, and effective for treating aging or fatigue. The present invention is based on the unexpected finding that certain known drug combinations show a synergistic effect in treating metabolic syndrome and various other diseases. In particular, the present invention includes (1) a therapeutically effective amount of a first agent that is an AMPK activator and (2) a therapeutically effective amount of a second agent that retains or maintains serotonin activity.
