The invention relates to the field of medicine, and more particularly to dentistry, and is intended for use during tooth splinting in order to isolate gums affected by chronic generalized or localized periodontitis. The condition of the tissue of the periodontium and the degree of mobility of the teeth are determined. A diagnosis is made on the basis of clinical and X-ray examinations. Anaesthesia is performed, a professional oral hygiene procedure is carried out, and anti-inflammatory treatment and splinting are performed. Prior to splinting, the dental pulp is removed. To protect the gums from injury during splinting, a gum isolation method is used. A silicone impression compound consisting of two components is mixed to produce a homogeneous paste which is shaped into a rectangular block and left to solidify. Next, the width of the interdental space is measured using a micrometer and the measurement data is transferred to the silicone block. Then, billets are cut in the shape of wedges of the required size and are introduced into the interdental space between the patient's teeth. The teeth are splinted, whereupon the wedges are removed from the interdental spaces using a probe or tweezers without injuring the gums.
