Disclosed is a method for producing a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide comprising a Brassica-derived chloroplast transit peptide, the method comprising: operably linking a polynucleotide comprising a synthetic nucleotide sequence that encodes a Brassica-derived chloroplast transit peptide to a polynucleotide that encodes a peptide of interest, wherein the synthetic Brassica-derived chloroplast transit peptide comprises a contiguous amino acid sequence of a first Brassica chloroplast transit peptide and a contiguous amino acid sequence of a second chloroplast transit peptide.
