Methods, systems, and techniques are provided to a position determination device for determining a position of an instrument within a tubular structure. The position determination device comprises a first curvature values providing unit for providing first curvature values being indicative of first curvatures of the tubular structure at several first locations along the tubular structure and a second curvature values providing unit for providing second curvature values being indicative of second curvatures of the instrument at several second locations along the instrument. A position determination unit determines the position of the instrument within the tubular structure based on the first and second curvature values.L'invention concerne un dispositif de détermination de position permettant de déterminer une position d'un instrument dans une structure tubulaire. Le dispositif de détermination de position (5) comprend une première unité de fourniture de valeurs de courbure (6) pour fournir des premières valeurs de courbure indiquant des premières courbures de la structure tubulaire à plusieurs premiers emplacements le long de la structure tubulaire et une seconde unité de fourniture de valeurs de courbure (7) pour fournir des secondes valeurs de courbure indiquant des secondes courbures de l'instrument (4) à plusieurs seconds emplacements le long de l'instrument (4).
