Disclosed is a pharmaceutical dosage form, preferably in the form of a tablet, prepared by hot-melt extrusion, exhibiting a breaking strength of at least 500 N, said dosage form containing a pharmacologically active ingredient (A) (such as tramadol hydrochloride) an anionic polysaccharide (B) selected from the group consisting of carboxymethylstarch and crosscarmellose and a polyalkylene oxide (preferably polyethylene oxide) (C) having a molecular weight of at least 500,000 g/mol wherein the pharmacologically active ingredient (A) is present in a controlled-release matrix comprising the anionic polysaccharide (B) and the polyalkylene oxide (C), wherein the content of polyalkylene oxide (C) is at least 20 wt% based on the total weight of the pharmaceutical dosage form.
