The present disclosure provides dosage forms designed to deliver a pharmaceutically active ingredient (API) in a controlled release manner. For example, the present disclosure includes dosage forms that have an effect at an appropriate time in the fed state and have a reduced lag time. Such dosage forms are used in various situations where rapid onset of action and subsequent sustained release phases are desired for the active agent, for example in the treatment of ADHD, pain or anxiety. In some instances, the dosage form comprises a drug composition comprising a pharmacologically active agent, a barrier layer covering at least a portion of the drug composition, and at least a portion of the barrier layer A drug layer (wherein the drug layer contains the pharmacologically active agent).
