The present invention relates to a composition comprising a botulinum toxin for use in treating a patient having hyperhydrosis, wherein the composition is administered by: a) administering a first composition containing an extracellular matrix digesting enzyme to a surface area of the patient; b) allowing sufficient time to pass for the extracellular matrix digesting enzyme to diffuse through the surface area and to a target; d) administering the composition comprising the botulinum toxin to the surface area; and e) allowing sufficient time for the botulinum toxin to diffuse through the surface area and to the target, thereby alleviating at least one symptom associated with the hyperhydrosis; wherein the surface area in step b) is selected from the group consisting of an axillary skin surface area, a palmar skin surface area and a plantar surface area.
