PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe whitening agent, melanogenesis inhibitor and dopa oxidase activity inhibitor.
SOLUTION: The whitening agent, melanogenesis inhibitor and dopa oxidase activity inhibitor, include organic solvent extracts of Lactuca virosa (Lactuca sativa) belonging to a plant of genus Lactuca, family Asteraceae. Where, a hydrophilic organic solvent is suitably used for the extraction. The whitening agent exhibits highly safe whitening effects even when using for a long time, by having excellent dopa oxidase activity-inhibiting properties together with low cytotoxicity.
