The present invention relates to the design, manufacture and use of fibroblast growth factor (FGF) polypeptides having improved receptor specificity. In particular, the invention relates to isolated FGF2 polypeptides comprising a truncated N-terminus and optionally N-terminal amino acid substitutions.
