PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display an object in a same size possibly without depending on the intensity of a photoacoustic signal or a distance from a light irradiation position side of the object in a photoacoustic image generating apparatus.SOLUTION: This photoacoustic image generating apparatus irradiates a subject with light from a laser unit 13 and, after the irradiation, detects photoacoustic signals generated in the subject using a probe 11. A peak detecting means 25 detects two or more peak positions from the photoacoustic signals. A peak correction means 26 corrects the photoacoustic signals such that the intenisities of the photoacoustic signals detected at the two or more peak positions become same.
