PURPOSE: A composition containing a Prunus persica var. davidiana extract is provided to suppress superoxide generation, to remove free radical, and to ensure antioxidation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for skin whitening contains a Prunus persica var. davidiana extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using a solvent which is selected from water, C1-C4 alcohol, and a mixture thereof. The fraction is a methanol fraction, a methylene chloride fraction, an ethyl acetate fraction, or a butanol fraction. The extract or the fraction suppresses tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis without cytotoxicity.
