The described invention provides a fishhook for nostril-hooked live bait-fish and a method for reducing injury to a nostril-hooked live bait-fish. The described fishhook comprises a point, a bend, a shank, an eye to secure the fishhook onto a fishing line, and a barrier structure. The point is a sharp end that penetrates the bait-fishs mouth or flesh, the bend is a curved portion of the fishhook that extends downwards from the point and then upwards towards the shank, and the barrier structure is fixedly placed at a point along the bend of the fishhook. The fixedly placed barrier structure is effective to reduce injury to the bait-fish from a fishhook point when the bait-fish swims or moves while attached to the fishhook.
