Methods are provided for reducing chronic inflammatory pain, increasing the levels of endogenous opioid peptides, as well as increasing the pain threshold of a subject having symptoms of androgen deficiency, comprising transdermally administering a composition comprising a bioactive androgen on a daily basis. In addition, the invention also relates to increasing the levels of endogenous opioid peptides in a human subject by administering an androgen composition to the subject. The invention also encompasses administration of a composition consisting essentially of an androgen for the treatment of chronic inflammatory pain, and for increasing the pain-threshold in a subject.L'invention concerne une méthode permettant de réduire la douleur inflammatoire chronique, d'augmenter les taux d'opioïdes endogènes ainsi que d'augmenter le seuil de la douleur chez le sujet humain présentant des symptômes de déficit des récepteurs aux androgènes, ladite méthode comprenant les étapes consistant à administrer quotidiennement au sujet et par voie transdermique une composition comportant un androgène bioactif. L'invention concerne également l'augmentation des taux d'opioïdes endogènes chez le sujet humain en lui administrant une composition d'androgène. L'invention concerne enfin l'administration d'une composition constituée essentiellement d'un androgène pour traiter la douleur inflammatoire chronique et pour augmenter le seuil de la douleur chez le sujet humain.
