A method of securing an anvil assembly in a first tilted position, the method comprising: receiving a first end of a suture through a first opening in a head assembly of an anvil assembly； receiving the first end of the suture through a bore in an adapter secured to a center rod assembly of the anvil assembly； receiving the first end of the suture back through a second opening in the head assembly； and tying the first end of the suture to a second end of the suture adjacent the head assembly.
