The applied electric field collects algae from the growth medium through an increase in the interfacial potential between the solvent and the solute and the use of micron-sized hydrogen and oxygen gas bubbles. The process and method utilize strategically arranged bipolar electrode plates that generate hydrogen gas and oxygen gas. The gas bubbles condense the biomass from the solution while at the same time clarifying the water for reuse within the algae growth system.
