ABSTRACT - 600864 The disclosure relates to use of a mixture of cyanogen in an amount of more than 6.6% v/v and less than or equal to 26% v/v and carbon dioxide to create a sufficiently oxygen-deficient environment such that when said mixture of cyanogen and carbon dioxide is added to air, said cyanogen remains below its flammability limit, wherein the amount of carbon dioxide present is 93 to 74 wt %, and wherein said cyanogen is in the form of a liquefied gas and said carbon dioxide is liquid or gaseous form. This fumigant/sterilant mixture of cyanogen and carbon dioxide is suitable for fumigating and/or sterilising soil or commodities such as timber in enclosed spaces with reduced health and safety risk.
