To obtain both a new excipient for a tablet and a tablet produced by using the same, which is a powder made from a sugar alcohol as a raw material, good in hygroscopic stability, suitable for molding tablets by direct compression and capable of providing a high hardness as a tablet and without any properties unfavorable for molding a tablet possessed by a conventional sugar alcohol.
SOLUTION: With the excipient for the tablet, the tablet can be molded by direct compression and the excipient includes at least 60.0 wt.%, preferably at least 80.0 wt.% and more preferably at least 90.0 wt.% of cellobiitol in the excipient for the tablet.
