PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hydroxystilbene derivative having anticancer activity higher than those of pterostilbene, p-coumaric acid, luteolin and &egr-viniferin, in particular strong anticancer activity against oral cancer a method for efficiently and safely generating the new hydroxystilbene derivative and anticancer agents, food, medicines, and quasi-drugs containing the new hydroxystilbene derivative.SOLUTION: The new hydroxystilbene derivative, which is 4-(2-(3,5-dimethoxy-4-(1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl)phenyl)ethenyl)phenol obtained by heating pterostilbene and p-coumaric acid in the presence of a metal salt, and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof are provided. Anticancer agents, food, medicines and quasi-drugs which contain the derivative or the pharmaceutical salt thereof are also provided.
