The elongated sleeve (224) has a proximal end and a distal end (225) and defines a sharpened tip. A stylet (226) is disposed within the elongated sleeve (224). The stylet (226) is movable between an extended position, wherein the stylet (226) extends beyond the tip of the sleeve (224), and a retracted position, to expose the sharpened tip for penetration through body tissue. At least one of the elongated sleeve (224) and the stylet (226) defines a passageway in fluid communication with the port (232) to direct the insufflation gases into a body cavity. An image sensor (240) is positioned on the elongated sleeve (224). The image sensor (240) is adapted to receive an optical image of an area adjacent the distal end (225) of the elongated sleeve (224) and is configured to transmit the optical image for viewing by a clinician.I 1/7 126 128 102b II 1042 10010 12813 1106 10 2 112 105 130 12 102a _ 010 "A" "A 107a 104 104 106 124N 104a 120 10 108 106a 104a >106a 120 FIG. 1 1082 107b FIG. 2
