PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation technique using babbles, particularly, an imaging technique that uses ultrasonic waves in combination with light.
SOLUTION: A ultrasonic probe 116 sends ultrasonic waves to babbles containing a fluorescent substance and receives ultrasonic waves from the babbles. An ultrasonic image formation section 122 forms an ultrasonic image containing the babbles on the basis of wave reception signals acquired by receiving ultrasonic waves from the babbles. An optical probe 220 irradiates the babbles containing the fluorescent substance with excitation light and receives light emitted from the babbles. A fluorescent image formation section 210 forms a fluorescent image containing the babbles on the basis of light reception signals acquired by receiving light from the babbles. An image synthesis section 322 forms a synthetic image by synthesizing the fluorescent image and the ultrasonic image.
