PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a promoter having specific activity to seeds and to provide a method for expressing a foreign protein in the seeds.
SOLUTION: This method for transforming rice includes isolating a plurality of promoters for rice seeds expressing genes, preparing binary vectors by inserting each of the promoters into the upstream of a GUS reporter gene, and transforming rice by an agrobacterium method. The expressed positions, the expression during the maturation period and further the expression intensity in the seeds by each of the promoters are examined by use of the GUS expression amounts as an index and the promoters having specific expression activity at specific positions of the seeds and having higher activity than constant promoters or well-known seed-specific promoters are found out.
