An apparatus for heating an operating fluid, the apparatus comprising a closed circuit (18) for a working fluid, the closed circuit (18) having first (10) and second (20) heat exchangers and a compressor (22) therebetween, the first heat exchanger (10) having a heat input side (34) for connection to an external fluid heat source and a heat output side (24) for vaporising working fluid within the closed circuit, the compressor (22) being a vapour compressor adapted to compress the vaporised gaseous working fluid from the first heat exchanger (10) to form a higher pressure gaseous working fluid, and the second heat exchanger (20) having a heat input side (26) for receiving and condensing the higher pressure gaseous working fluid from the compressor and a heat output side (30) for heating an external operating fluid. A corresponding method is also disclosed.Un aparato para calentar un fluido de operación, comprendiendo el aparato un circuito cerrado (18) para un fluido de trabajo, teniendo el circuito cerrado (18) intercambiadores de calor primero (10) y segundo (20) y un compresor (22) entre ellos, el primer intercambiador de calor tiene (10) un lado de entrada de calor (34) para conexión a una fuente de calor de fluido externo (24) para vaporizar fluido de trabajo dentro del circuito cerrado, siendo el compresor (22) un compresor de vapor adaptado para comprimir el fluido de trabajo gaseoso vaporizado a partir del primer intercambiador de calor (10) para formar un fluido de trabajo gaseoso de mayor presión, y el segundo intercambiador de calor (20) tiene un lado de entrada de calor (26) para recibir y condensar el fluido de trabajo gaseoso de presión mayor desde el compresor y un lado de salida externa (30) para calentar un fluido de operación externo.
