A cross-sectional image generation unit generates a cross-sectional image indicating at least a part of a cross-sectional surface of a subject by arranging and synthesizing a plurality of ultrasonic images, which are based on the reflected wave received by the probe at a plurality of positions around the subject, based on the position and the orientation of the probe when the probe generates the ultrasonic wave and receives the reflected wave.
