An automated apparatus for removing the tops (calyx) of strawberries as they move along a conveyor belt having a plurality of concave-shaped slotted rollers which operate to orient the calyx of each strawberry for being cut. Images are captured and processed for locating the calyx of each strawberry and determining an optimal cutting plane. In response to the image processing a control system actuates a blade in a cutting apparatus to pass through the produce item and into one of the slots in a roller, or rollers, to separate the calyx from the body of the strawberry.La présente invention concerne un appareil automatisé permettant de retirer les parties supérieures (calyx) de fraises à mesure qu'elles se déplacent le long d'une courroie transporteuse présentant une pluralité de rouleaux à fente de forme concave qui fonctionnent pour orienter le calyx de chaque fraise pour qu'il soit coupé. Des images sont saisies et traitées pour la localisation du calyx de chaque fraise et la détermination d'un plan de coupe optimal. En réponse à un traitement d'image, un système de commande actionne une lame dans un appareil de coupe pour traverser l'article produit et dans l'une des fentes dans un rouleau, pour séparer le calyx du corps de la fraise.
