To provide a gene transfer agent further improved in its gene transfer efficiency and a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION: This gene transfer agent is characterized by comprising fractions obtained by the molecular weight fractionation of a cross-linked product obtained by cross-linking a branched type polymer and having an approximately equivalent molecular weight with the branched type polymer which is obtained by using an aromatic compound introduced with &ge 3 N, N-disubstituted dithiocarbamylmethyl groups as branched chains ON its aromatic ring as an iniferter and performing the photo-irradiated living polymerization of a vinyl-based monomer ON the branched chains of the iniferter.
