A foot and ankle walking brace (1) comprises a pair of leg splints (2) adapted for location along the lateral and medial sides of a lower limb (23, 24, 25) respectively. A foot plate (3) is secured at opposite sides thereof to distal ends (4) of the splints (2) and at least two head plates (5) are connected to or defined by proximal ends (6) of the splints (2) respectively. In use, proximal ends (6) the splints (2) and the head plates (5) are incorporated in a cast leaving the foot (23) and ankle (25) suspended above the foot plate (3) in a non-weight bearing state, while the foot plate (3) permits a normal heel-toe walking gait to be maintained during use. Preferably, the head plates (5) are provided with a plurality of projections (9) to strengthen bonding of the head plates (5) to the cast.
