A thin, biocompatible, high-strength, composite material is disclosed that issuitable for use in various implanted configurations. In one aspect, thecompositematerial maintains flexibility in high-cycle flexural applications, making itparticularlyapplicable to high-flex implants such as heart pacing lead or heart valveleaflet. Thecomposite material includes a porous expanded fluoropolymer membrane and anelastomer, wherein the elastomer is present in substantially all of the poresof theporous expanded fluoropolymer, and the composite material comprising less thanabout 80% fluoropolymer by weight.
