The present disclosure provides nanoparticle transducers and methods of usethereof for the detection of analyte concentrationsin a fluid. Nanoparticle transducers can comprise a nanoparticle, such as aPdot, coupled to an enzyme that catalyzes a reactionwith the analyte. The nanoparticle transducers further comprise chromophoresthat emit fluorescence that varies as a function of theconcentration of one of the elements of the reaction. The nanoparticletransducer thus changes fluorescence as the analyte concentrationchanges, transforming analyte concentration values into fluorescenceintensities. The measurement of these intensities provides ameasurement of the analyte concentration. The nanoparticle transducers arebiocompatible, allowing for use in vivo, for the monitoringof analyte blood concentrations such as blood glucose concentrations.
