An animal restraint, or "head bail" apparatus for a livestock handling devicehas two opposed gates to trap the neck of an animal. The gates arepneumatically operated and lockable at any position by a brake caliperassembly that locks onto a releasable braking member, which slides as thegates operate. The bail apparatus can be used with a cattle crush although itmay also be used in applications other than with a cattle crush.
