Provided is a method for producing [gamma]-Glu-Abu and method for producing yeast extract containing [gamma]-Glu-Abu. Yeast, which is capable of producing [gamma]-Glu-Abu modified so as to retain a variant GAP1 gene and/or modified so that the activity of protein coded in the YGL114w gene increases, is cultivated in a culture medium to generate and accumulate [gamma]-Glu-Abu in the culture medium, and [gamma]-Glu-Abu is harvested from the culture medium to thereby produce [gamma]-Glu-Abu.
