PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biodegradable starch absorbent having increased absorption, rate of water absorption and reduced cost in reduced environmental loading type absorbent. SOLUTION: This method uses the superabsorbent starch gel obtained by mixing carboxymethyl starch(CMS) with the starch, adding water and kneading to get a paste state mixture and then irradiating an ionizing radiation.
