<;P>;PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-absorbing lightweight material made usable as a gardening article or the like by combining a low-quality pulp which has been disposed of as an industrial waste, a polymeric absorbing polymer and bark together. <;P>;SOLUTION: The water-absorbing lightweight material is provided, being obtained by the following process: For fibrous pulp and a polymeric absorbing polymer, used paper diaper is water-solubilized, and human urine waste or the like absorbed by the polymeric absorbing polymer is dehydrated using a monomerizing agent such as calcium chloride, and the resultant system is classified into the fibrous pulp, the polymeric absorbing polymer and vinyl compounds to retrieve the fibrous pulp and the polymeric absorbing polymer. The fibrous pulp is formed to pieces of 2-4 mm size. The bark which has been stripped in lumber sawing or drying is pulverized to pieces of 20-30 mm size. The fibrous pulp, the polymeric absorbing polymer and the thus pulverized bark are charged, together with water, into a vessel, and agitated by an agitator to mix them together so as to entangle the fibrous pulp and the polymeric absorbing polymer on the pulverized bark, and the resultant system in a water-rich state is put into a framework and then subjected to compression molding by a pressing machine. <;P>;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
