The turf segments 21 can be stacked and transported to a site for transplanting. The turf system includes a plurality of turf segments 21. Each turf segment 21 comprises a binding grid 15, 15, a fertile growing medium such as the organic soil layer 17 and a turf layer 19. The binding grid 15, 15 forms a binding base for the segment 21.
