The present invention relates to a composition containing extracts of medicinal herbs as an active ingredient for preventing or treating obesity. According to the present invention, (a) a mixed extract of Ephedra sinica, Rheum palmatum L. and Arnebia euchroma； and (b) a Gamisochehwan (GSH, which agglomerates herb medicines into a ring) extract which is a mixture of Glycyrrhizae Radix, Cyperi Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Crataegi Fructus, Poria, Cinnamomi Cortex, Alpiniae officinarum Rhizoma, Amomi Fructus, Aurantii Fructus immaturus, Aucklandiae Radix, Amomi Fructus rotundus, Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, Chebulae Fructus, Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma, Piperis longi Fructus, Pogostemonis/Agastaches Herba, Caryophylli Flos and Menthae haplocalycis Herba have excellent effects of not causing hepatotoxicity in an obesity animal model induced by a high-fat diet, decreasing the weight and the adipose tissue weight, improving diet efficiency and reducing a concentration of total blood cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride, and thus can be helpfully used for preventing or treating obesity.본 발명은 한약재의 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 비만의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 (a) 마황, 대황 및 자초의 혼합 추출물； 및 (b) 감초, 향부자, 산사육, 건강, 복령, 육계, 고량강, 공사인, 지실, 목향, 백두구, 산초, 가자피, 백출, 필발, 곽향, 정향 및 박하뇌의 혼합물인 가미소체환의 추출물；은 고지방 식이로 유도한 비만 동물모델에서 간 독성을 일으키지 않으며, 체중 및 지방 조직의 무게를 감소시키고, 식이효율을 개선하며, 혈중 총 콜레스테롤, LDL-콜레스테롤 및 중성지방의 농도를 감소시키는 우수한 효과를 가지고 있어, 비만의 예방 또는 치료에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
