PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seeding condition detecting method which detects the stay of seeds, absence of seeds and a change in a seed grain amount in a paddy rise direct seeding in particular, and to provide a direct seeder using the seeding condition detecting method.SOLUTION: In the seeding condition detecting method for detecting a condition where seeds are sowed in soil, an optical sensor 16 receives the light reflected on the soil surface on which seeds are sowed, and detects the absence of seeds or a seed grain amount depending on the light receiving amount detected by the optical sensor 16.
