PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic image diagnostic apparatus which allows an operator to grasp the position of a puncture needle by reducing reduction in a frame rate.SOLUTION: A transmission part 202 applies a drive signal to an ultrasonic probe 22 so that a transmission ultrasonic wave being a plane wave is output from the ultrasonic probe 22. A reception part 203 receives from the ultrasonic probe 22 a reception signal being a plane wave obtained by receiving a reflection ultrasonic wave obtained from reflection of the transmission ultrasonic wave being the plane wave output from the ultrasonic probe 22 with the puncture needle inserted to a subject by the ultrasonic probe 22. A puncture needle position detection part obtains puncture needle echo information indicating the angle and position of the puncture needle inserted to the subject from the reception signal being the plane wave received by the reception part 203.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
