The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating radiation syndrome which comprises an extract of garlic as an active ingredient. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating radiation syndrome and a food composition for improving radiation syndrome, which comprise an extract of garlic as an active ingredient. The present invention can be used to provide a composition and a food composition for preventing or treating radiation syndrome which comprise an extract of garlic as an active ingredient, and to provide a composition for inhibiting variation of chromosome caused by radiation and a composition for retaining chromosome stability. In addition, the present invention can be used advisably to prevent, improve and treat diseases caused by radiation through the effect of inhibiting variation of genes provided by an extract of garlic.본 발명은 마늘 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 방사선 증후군의 예방 또는 치료용 조성에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 마늘 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 방사선 증후군(radiation syndrome)의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물 및 개선용 식품용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 방법은 마늘 추출물을 유효성분으로 하는 방사선 증후군의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물 및 식품용 조성물을 제공하고, 방사선으로 유발되는 염색체 변이 억제용 조성물 및 염색체 안정성 유지용 조성물을 제공하는 데에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다. 그리고 마늘 추출물의 유전자 변이를 억제하는 효과를 이용하여 방사선에 의해 유발되는 질병을 예방, 개선 및 치료하는 데에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
