THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD FOR PRODUCING PURE CARYOPHYLLENE OXIDE FROM CARYOPHYLLENE COMPRISING THE STEPS OF: STIRRING A CARBOXYLIC ACID AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE WITH THE CARYOPHYLLENE TO FORM A MIXTURE ADDING AN ORGANIC SOLVENT AND AN INORGANIC SOLVENT TO THE MIXTURE TO SEPARATE THE MIXTURE INTO AN ORGANIC PHASE AND AN INORGANIC PHASE CRYSTALLISING THE ORGANIC PHASE TO YIELD THE CARYOPHYLLENE OXIDE CHARACTERISED IN THAT THE CARBOXYLIC ACID IS FORMIC ACID, THE MOLE RATIO OF FORMIC ACID TO CARYOPHYLLENE IS FROM (0.1 — 1.2): 1 AND THE MOLE RATIO OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE TO CARYOPHYLLENE IS 1 : 1.2, THE CARBOXYLIC ACID AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IS STIRRED WITH THE CARYOPHYLLENE AT A TEMPERATURE OF 15-50ºC TO FORM THE MIXTURE, AND THE MIXTURE HAS A PH OF 0.5-3.2.
