PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fracture of an optical fiber even when a joint is employed for a protective tube for the optical fiber.SOLUTION: In an endoscope, an optical fiber 39 for guiding light from a light source to a distal end of an insertion portion is provided. The optical fiber 39 is inserted in a protective tube 66. The protective tube 66 comprises a first tube 67 that is disposed in a bending portion and has high plasticity, a second tube 68 which is disposed in a flexible tube portion and has a high coefficient of friction at an external surface, and a joint 69 which connects the tubes 67 and 68. Inner diameters d2 and d3 of inner holes of the respective tubes 67 and 68 are smaller than an inner diameter d1 of the insertion hole of the joint 69. The respective tubes 67 and 68 are fit to the joint 69 by expanding the respective inner diameters. Since bulge parts are formed by bulging inner walls of the respective tubes 67 and 68 at both ends of the joint 69, edges 71a and 72a of the joint 69 are covered with the bulge parts.
