Methods and devices for altering the power of a lens, such as an intraocular lens, are disclosed. In one method, the lens comprises a polymer matrix containing photobleachable chromophores and a radical scavenger dispersed in the polymer matrix. In another method, a sensitizer is added to the lens. In yet another method, the lens comprises a chromophore that has a chromophore having at least two isomers. In yet another method, the lens comprises photobleachable multiphoton chromophores.
