A biopsy device comprising an elongate flexible rod member 108 having a first longitudinal axis and a tip 102 with distal end 104 for penetrating tissue of a subject and a proximal end 106 having a cutting portion for use in a biopsy. The tip has a second longitudinal axis (defined between the proximal and distal ends) which is offset to the first longitudinal axis (see Fig 2). The offset may be between 1° and 80°. The cutting portion may be a single pointed blade or two blades extending along the longitudinal axis creating a cutting void (see 302 Fig 3). There may be a sheath 116 on the rob member with an anvil 122 cutting blade. The tip and the rod may be fixed at an angle to each other. A sterile kit of parts is also disclosed. A method of using the biopsy device by entering it into a body, severing tissue and removing it is claimed and testing the sample, preferably of 10mg size. The biopsy device maybe used anywhere in the body, though preferably retrieving heart or other endomyocardial samples.
