Disclosed is the use of amlexanox, or a salt or solvate thereof, in the preparation of a drug having an inhibitory effect on smooth muscle cells, particularly a drug for preventing and treating vascular restenosis. Further disclosed is a medical device, in particular a drug stent, on which amlexanox or a salt thereof, or a pharmaceutical composition thereof is distributed. Amlexanox is particularly suitable for use in medical devices that are active in inhibiting smooth muscle cell proliferation, have low inhibitory properties of endothelial cell growth, and prevent the development of vascular restenosis without delaying endothelial repair. ing.
