The present invention relates to an image segmentation technology. Especially, the present invention relates to a vessel segmentation device and a method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the vessel segmentation device comprises: a vessel segmentation unit for segmenting a vessel from a received image； a graph image generation unit for generating a graph image corresponding to the image of the vessel segmented by the vessel segmentation unit； and a small vessel extraction unit for comparing at least one branch point structural type received from a database with a structure of a branch point selected among a plurality of branch points included in the graph image. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the vessel segmentation device can automatically segment a desired vessel from an image, thereby reducing the time required to establish a plan for an operation of a patient and to simulate the operation.본 출원은 영상 분할 기술에 관한 것으로, 특히 혈관을 분할하는 장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 출원의 실시 예에 따른 혈관 분할 장치는 입력된 영상으로부터 혈관을 분할하는 혈관 분할부, 상기 혈관 분할부에 의하여 분할된 혈관의 영상에 대응하는 그래프 영상을 생성하는 그래프 영상 생성부 및 상기 그래프 영상에 포함된 복수의 분기점들 중 선택된 분기점의 구조와 데이터 베이스로부터 수신된 적어도 하나의 분기점 구조 타입을 비교하는 소혈관 추출부를 포함한다. 본 출원의 실시 예에 따른 혈관 분할 장치는 자동으로 영상으로부터 원하는 혈관을 분할할 수 있다. 따라서, 환자의 수술 계획을 수립하고 수술 시뮬레이션에 소요되는 시간이 감소될 수 있다.
