PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system, a technique and a method for estimating a metabolic state and dynamics such as a body energy state (BES) of a patient. A method for estimating the gluconeogenesis rate of a patient, comprising: (a) administering a marker to the patient； (b) collecting a blood sample from the patient； (c) extracting the blood sample. Analyzing glucose or a glucose derivative； (d) obtaining a value of the gluconeogenesis rate； (e) obtaining a value of the gluconeogenesis rate plus glycogenolysis； and (f) the above (d) and ( e) is used to estimate the gluconeogenesis rate.
