A staple cartridge for use with a surgical stapler can include a cartridge deck and a plurality of staples at least partially disposed within the cartridge deck. In various embodiments, the staple can be supported by the support jaws of the surgical stapler and can include legs that extend upward through openings defined in the interior of the cartridge deck.
