The present invention relates to a method for disinfecting a space and the objects present therein, which method comprises at least the following steps of: (a) determining a first value of the relative humidity of the air in the space (b) atomizing a disinfecting liquid in the space until a predetermined second value of the relative humidity of the air is reached in the space, and (c) maintaining the relative humidity of the air for a predetermined time at the second value by means of atomizing the disinfecting liquid, wherein the method further comprises of decreasing the relative humidity of the air in the space prior to and/or during atomizing of the disinfecting liquid.
