The present invention relates to a method for extracting buds 8 from a stalk 1 of a graminaceous plant. The method comprises the steps of obtaining at least one stalk half 7 by cutting the stalk 1 in longitudinal direction L of the stalk 1, automatically detecting a bud 8 on the stalk half 7 and cutting out a vegetal tissue comprising the bud 8 based on the detected position of the bud 8.
